Google will clearly label medical facilities in the United States that provide abortions in search results and Google Maps to avoid misunderstanding with anti-abortion groups, the company's CEO warned lawmakers on Thursday.

In a letter to Senator Mark Warner and Representative Elissa Slotkin, Google's vice president of government affairs and public policy for the United States and Canada, Mark Isakowitz, stated that when consumers search for "abortion clinics near me," the results box will display verified establishments that offer abortions.

According to Isakowitz, the internet giant will also permit users to put non-abortion-performing organizations in their search results.

Google's response came in response to Warner and Slotkin's June 17 letter urging Alphabet (NASDAQ:GOOGL) Inc Chief Executive Sundar Pichai to prevent false Google search results that steered people to anti-abortion centers.

Following the overturning of Roe v. Wade, more than half of U.S. states have or will seek to outlaw or restrict abortions. The states, including Idaho, Texas, and eleven others, have passed "trigger" laws forbidding abortions upon such a finding.
