The Google Play Store has authorized the distribution of the social networking application Truth Social by former U.S. President Donald Trump, according to a Google spokesperson on Wednesday.

According to Google, Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG), which runs Truth Social, will shortly make the application available on the Play Store.

"Working with Google has been a pleasure, and we're thrilled they helped us offer Truth Social to all Americans, regardless of the device they use," stated TMTG CEO Devin Nunes.

Truth Social made its debut in the Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) App Store in the United States in February. According to a Google spokesperson in August, the app was unavailable on the Play Store due to insufficient content moderation. Google has expressed concern to Truth Social for violations of its Play Store policies prohibiting content such as physical threats and incitements to violence.

Truth Social cannot be downloaded by the majority of smartphone users without Google and Apple stores.

Android users in the United States download applications predominantly through the Google Play Store. Android users can acquire programs from competing app stores or by downloading them directly from a website, but the latter option frequently requires additional security permissions and protocols. Truth Social has been accessible via various methods despite the Play Store prohibition by Google.

Android devices constitute over 40% of the U.S. smartphone market.

Trump's presence on social media was reestablished more than a year after he was banned from Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR), Facebook (NASDAQ:META), and Alphabet (NASDAQ:GOOGL) Inc's YouTube in the aftermath of the Jan. 6, 2021 U.S. Capitol riots for tweeting statements promoting violence.

TMTG claims to have created an "engaging and censorship-free experience" on Truth Social, appealing to a community that believes its views on critical matters such as the 2020 presidential election result have been censored on mainstream internet platforms.

Axios was the first media outlet to report Google's approval.
